HISTORY
OF
THE RACHMANINOV COMPETITION
Rachmaninoff Piano Competition

   Rachmaninov competition was first established in 1983 by the Ministry of Culture of the USSR as All-Union Competition for pianists. From the outstet it has become a monographic event with only Rachmaninov's works performed in its programme.
The First All-Union Rachmaninov Competition took place in 1983.

    2 prize - I.Osipova
    3 prize - A.Botvinov, A.Kornienko

The Second All-Union Rachmaninov Competition took place in 1989.

    1 prize - A.Mardasov
    2 prize - I.Itin

The First International Rachmaninov Competition for pianist took place in 1993.
It was organized by Ministry of Culture, International Music Union, Moscow Conservatoire and Rachmaninov Society with the consent of the possessor of the copy-rights and Rachmaninov's heir, his grand-son Alexander Rachmaninov.

THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL RACHMANINOV

The Second International Rachmaninov Competition took place in 1997 for both pianists and vocalists. Rachmaninov's relatives living in Russia and abroad took active part in organizing it.

    I extended my warmest greetings on the occasion of the Se-cond internati-onal Rachmani-nov Competition. It gives me particular pleasure to note that the Second competition involves not only pianists but vocalists too, so the tremendous heritage of the greatest Russian composer will sound out at last. I wish to all the participants and organizers of this festival of music every success, much inspiration and triumphs in creative work.
